EDINBURG – Exploring new hobbies, educating yourself on local history, and being immersed in Rio Grande Valley culture is a great way to stay entertained this summer.
The Museum of South Texas History (MOST) on the corner of Closner Blvd. and McIntyre St. welcomes students of all ages to learn about the valley’s history.
Curator of Exhibits and Collections for MOST, Jenarae Bautista, said the museum’s value is derived from the history it provides about the region.
“We do have a handful of children’s activities, and interactives so as you go through the exhibit,” Bautista said. “You can experience that and we do have a new exhibit on educational history so if anybody’s curious they can check that out, it’ll only be open for a few months.”
Students who visit the museum are offered a student discount if a university ID is shown at the front desk.
General admission for the public is free Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. To 12 p.m. So, individuals can fulfill their curiosity of the museum without a ticket purchase.
Summer activities do not always need educational content, sometimes reading a comic or picking up a hobby can turn downtime into a fun time.
Kali Martinez, owner of Myth Adventures, said the local comic book shop and game store has items and activities for everyone.
“It is pretty laid back I would say, because we have an open table policy. So pretty much anybody can come and play whatever game they have at home or we have games available here for them to play,” Martinez said.
Nora Carden, event coordinator for Myth Adventures, added the store has space for individuals to meet with friends and make new friendships with people who might share the same hobby of video games or card games.
