Meet “The Crew” here at KVAQ-TV at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Dathan Treviño Dathan Treviño is the News Director for KVAQ-TV. He is a Theatre major with a concentration in Film Production. He loves watching movies and making them. He plans to pursue a career in filmmaking and move to Austin after college in hopes of joining the growing film scene.

 

Victor Ortega is the Assistant New Director for the Brownsville campus. His hobbies are playing video games and going to the movies in Mexico since “it’s way cheaper.” He would love to work as a film or TV producer in the future.

Alexandra Salazar is the TV/Video Editor for the Edinburg Campus. She is majoring in Theatre with a concentration in Film Production as a Sophomore. Her hobbies include reading, taking photos, listening to music, and playing games. Her goal is to pursue a career in the filmmaking industry behind the scenes as she enjoys helping people make their films become reality.   

Juan Carlos Marquez JR is the TV Web Producer for the Edinburg Campus. He is majoring in Visual Communications Design as a Sophomore. His hobbies include painting, collecting vinyl records, gaming, reading, watching series, creating digital art, and studying various history forms. His goals include becoming a freelance multimedia artist, creating a webcomic, or working in the entertainment industry. 

Stephen Gutierrez is the Sports Multimedia Journalist for KVAQ-TV. He is a Mass Communication major with a concentration in Print Journalism. He loves collecting Oshawott figures, plushies, and trading cards. He hopes to pursue a career in print or broadcast journalism in the Rio Grande Valley after graduation.

Ian Juarez is a Multimedia Journalist, Freshman Theatre Major with a concentration in Film Production and a minor in Education. He hopes to be a professor/teacher to inspire others to create and tell stories. Some of his hobbies include competitive Beyblade, content creation, video game. 

Samara Flores is a Multimedia Journalist majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism. She hopes to one day work in Television whilst simultaneously teaching as a professor. Some of her hobbies include playing Magic: The Gathering, listening to Post-Hardcore music, and watching YouTube on her iPad. 

Gabriela Sandoval is a Multimedia journalist for KVAQ-TV. She is a Communication Studies major with a minor in Film Production. She is a huge Spider-Man fan with a growing collection. Her future plans are to become a camera operator to record music concerts and possibly NFL games.

Alysssa Mendoza is a new Multimedia Journalist for KVAQ-TV. She is a Mass Communications Major with a concentration in Journalism. She loves spending time with her friends and family and values connections. She plans to pursue a career as an anchor for news stations, locally or nationally. She hopes she can make her name known in the field and make her family and teachers proud.
