MCALLEN – Members of both the UTRGV and the South Texas College administration have created a faster way for students to transition from South Texas College to UTRGV.
The agreement formally named “STC 2 UTRGV” transitions students into the university by simplifying the application process. With help from both administrations’ technical departments, students only submit a single application to apply to both institutions. “It reduces some of the administrative barriers for students who want to transfer from STC to UTRGV- … on their education journey and we think it will make it a lot easier, a lot more seamless for them.” Said Guy Bailey, UTRGV president.
The admission agreement helps students who don’t meet the initial UTRGV admission requirements and gives them the opportunity to start at South Texas College. Once those students meet the program’s 2.0 GPA requirement and the required credit hours, they can begin transitioning into UTRGV.
“We have to be innovative but most important creative and above all we need to be bold, and we need to adapt to the very rapid depend in changes within industry business and of course how that affects the most important assets, our students,” said Ricardo Solis, South Texas College president, who views this agreement as a merger between both institutions.
Aissa Rodriguez, South Texas College outreach representative, and recent UTRGV graduate had this to say about her involvement in helping students achieve their academic goals
“Going from STC to UTRGV was an awesome experience and I want to make sure I am the person to help these students get from one point to their end goals,” said Rodriguez. “It’s just very amazing and rewarding to be able to know that I am going to help students achieve their goals.”
The “STC 2 UTRGV” program begins this Fall semester, with the first students entering the program next Fall 2023 semester.
