MISSION – After Texas requested a waiver to promote healthy eating through food stamps, Senate Bill 379 was created for an in-depth list of items restricted for SNAP recipients.
Victoria Gutierrez, Mission resident and SNAP recipient, is a mother of two children and shared she was upset at the change at first. Now, she agreed the choice was wise so parents could purchase healthier food options.
“I mean, a lot of the times you do see everybody buying junk food, maybe it’s a good thing that they cut it off because a lot of kids are just not very, you know, they don’t eat healthy.”
According to a retailer notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the new restrictions will take effect on April 1. For more information or questions, contact ebtretailops@hhs.Tx.Gov or visit hhs.texas.gov for a complete list of restricted items on SNAP.
