Annual “Walk of Life” Event Staged at Clinic

Nathaniel Puente February 5, 2019

McAllen- Pro-choice and pro-life demonstrators gathered in front of Whole Woman’s Health of McAllen to express their beliefs over the abortion issue.

All of this amidst a recent decision by the New York Senate to change the states abortion laws. The bill states an abortion  may be formed at any time if it is necessary to protect a patient’s life or health.

For the Pro-life group, it was their annual Walk of Life, a religiously charged event that shows support for their side.

“The child is a  product of love, it’s a gift of God,” said Deacon Rudy Sepulveda, who was showing support for the pro-life side.

The event fell on the 15th anniversary of Whole Woman’s Health in McAllen. The center’s President, Amy Hagstrom Miller, came down for the anniversary and told us why safe abortion services are vital.

“Abortion is a normal part of woman’s health,” Miller said, “if we think about how we would want our sister, mother, best friend, to be treated if they faced an unplanned pregnancy; I think it gives people pause and think about kindness and compassion instead of judgement.”

While New York loosened abortion laws, Texas is one of the strictest states in the nation, making It tough for Whole Women’s Health to properly treat their patients.

“Every time the Texas legislature meets,” Miller commented, “it usually passes one, and sometimes five or six, different restrictions on women’s ability to access safe abortion in the state of Texas.”
