EDINBURG – Perspective and evaluation are both important elements to the “Viewpointing” Senior Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition hosted by the UTRGV School of Art and Design from April 22 through May 5.
The exhibition features various mediums of art from sculptures, drawings and paintings.
Marcus Farris, an associate professor for the School of Art and Design, said the gallery serves as a representation of everything the students learned throughout their time in the BFA program.
“[For] each student, this is a culmination of what they’ve learned while they were here as a BFA student, so whatever they put together is entirely based on them,” Farris said.
Political discourse, social injustices, bodily autonomy and the celebration of cultures are all themes that can be found in the seniors’ work. The gallery gives students the opportunity to display the work they have been working on all semester and get a glimpse into their artistic styles and concepts.
Bo Riabova, a senior BFA student, presented a piece conveying a message of both control and uncertainty.
“My piece talks about not being granted peace after death,” said Riabova. “It talks about judgement just how death are both uncontrollable things. It’s a self-portrait because I’m terrified of those things, right? The uncertainty of it. So, I kind of like created this piece to help have some like control over that.”
Students and community members alike are encouraged to attend the exhibit and glimpse into the talent shaping the next generation of the art world.
