RIO GRANDE VALLEY – UTRGV’s colleges continue to meet with faculty, staff and students to voice needs and concerns after the dissolvement of its faculty senate 6 months ago.
Robert Freeman, College of Engineering and Computer Sciences dean, said he has not heard any updates for the senate’s replacement.
Despite this, Freeman said the college of engineering and computer sciences has a committee of its own, where members meet on a regular basis for representation on a college level.
“We have a college advisory committee or advisory group that is comprised of two members from each of the six departments in the college,” Freeman said.
Freeman added the committee, which has been in place since the UT-Pan American days, serves to help faculty with concerns on matters such as classes, research and student projects.
He said he met with the group in January and is expected to meet again in March.
The College of Fine Arts follows similar steps.
In a statement sent to KVAQ-TV by Jeffrey Ward, College of Fine Arts dean, he stated the college also hosts meetings with its community members.
Ward shared college and department-level committees are very important in addressing issues and hearing about the prospects of the community.
KVAQ-TV will provide updates upon changes to faculty representation.
