Weslaco- It’s the final hour of election night. The city of Weslaco opened its doors to the public, allowing registered voters to cast their ballot for the midterm elections. For one resident, encouraging others to vote means the community can come together as one voice.
“That affects our jobs, our homes, our taxes, and we’re the ones that are going to have to deal with that in the end,” said Angel Sandoval, a resident of Weslaco.
Angel Sandoval supports Jerry Tafolla, a candidate running for Weslaco City Commissioner District 4 and Coach Armando Cuellar who ran for the W.I.S.D School Board Trustee. The opposing teams in the City of Weslaco were teams Caballero and Garcia.
“It’s very important that you vote locally. There’s only so much that the senate sees that the senate does. And your commissioner is here – he is your voice. Your trustee is here. He is your voice. They’re in charge of fixing up our schools, making sure our education, our colleges are at affordable prices,” said Sandoval.
When the clock struck 7 pm on election night, Sandoval gathered his team and encouraged opposing campaigners to join him in prayer.
“Team Caballero, Team Garcia, I’d love for you all to join us. I want us to unite. Not as campaigns, but as Weslaco.”
