Police Reports: 5-6-19

utrgvtv May 6, 2019

And here’s this week’s police reports released to us by UTRGV PD this past week:

On April 29th, a female student reported finding written messages on the windows of her vehicle while parked unattended in lot E19.  The female reported finding the offensive messages on three separate occasions during the month of April 2019. Case is under investigation.

Later that same day, an officer responded to an off-campus residence in Edinburg to check on the welfare of a male staff member who failed to report to work.  Upon the officer’s arrival, a family member already on scene had forcibly entered the residence and found the staff member unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services and the Edinburg Police Department arrived on scene.  The staff member was pronounced deceased and Edinburg Police initiated the unattended death investigation which appears to be due to a previous medical condition.

And a criminal investigation revealed that a male student had intentionally and knowingly filed a false report to a peace officer.  The student confessed to have filed the false report to the detectives. A warrant was obtained and the male arrested on April 29th.  He was charged with Falsifying a Report to a Peace Officer, a Class B Misdemeanor. The criminal elements for Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence (3rd Degree Felony) were met but at this time, no charges will be filed. The original classification of Duty Upon Striking Unattended Vehicle was unfounded. This incident will be referred to Student Rights Responsibilities for further review.

On April 30th, female students reported observing an unknown male wearing baggy jeans walking in the area of the Main Building at the Brownsville campus when his pants dropped to the ground.  The students believe the incident was accidental. The male subject was no longer in the area when the officers checked.
