EDINBURG – Students from UTRGV’s Environmental Awareness club lead rally in protest of the LNG pipeline set for construction near Port Isabel.
The group marched around parading signs opposing the pipeline and UTRGV’s partnership with Rio Grande LNG, which is currently the largest proposed private investment in the state.
Protestors say the LNG export terminal would be the largest source of air pollution in Cameron County and would endanger wildlife.
“LNG will be problematic to our ecosystem and to community health, and also we just want the students to know that UTRGV does have a part in it and that we don’t have to stand for that,” said Environmental Awareness Club Secretary Sheila Patel.
