Police Reports: 8-26-19

utrgvtv August 26, 2019

And here’s this week’s police reports released to us by UTRGV PD this past week:

On Monday, August 19th at 1:38 p.m. UTRGV PD was contacted by a Veterans Affairs Police Officer in reference to a suspicious item left unattended in lot H4.  The item was a microwave oven on the ground next to an unoccupied vehicle. The UTRGV PD officer set a perimeter along the UTRGV property and contacted the Brownsville PD Bomb Squad.  An emergency alert message was sent to the Harlingen campus advising of the suspicious item. The bomb squad later examined and cleared the item. All normal operations resumed.

On Wednesday, August 21st at 3:37 p.m. An officer was dispatched to location in reference to a faculty member reporting having received a suspicious phone call while at his off-campus residence.  The faculty member reported the caller informed him that his computer had been hacked. The officer made contact with the caller who hung up once the officer attempted to identify him.  No personal or work-related information was given to the caller by the faculty member and his University computer had not been breached. Report was generated for documentation purposes.

That same day, at 10:59 p.m. an officer was contacted by a U.S. Border Patrol agent at location informing him that they were searching for several individuals in the brush area west of parking lot B1.Four individuals were apprehended and taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol (USBP). Three individuals were from Mexico and the fourth was from Honduras.
