HARLINGEN – “Defend our future” these words were visible everywhere at the Harlingen Convention Center with Vice President JD Vance and other officials riling up the Valley’s voter base ahead of midterm elections.
Dozens of supporters went to the event and were lined up for hours as every person was scanned by security as they entered the doors.
Alexis Uscanga, former president of the Turning Point USA UTRGV chapter, attended the event and said it was very “historic” to have the vice-president in Harlingen.
“I do have a lot of frustrations right now with the economy,” Uscanga said. “And I think a lot of people do. And that’s something that [VANCE] was talking about that the white house is working on, that current congress is working on, and it takes time.”
Uscanga said the event is a “showcase” of the Valley’s changing voter base.
“It kind of tells us what we already know, that the RGV is very politically a swing district, that it’s no longer the democrat stronghold that it used to be, that republicans now have a play in this district,” he said.
Vice-President Vance was met with applause as he entered the stage. He said Texas District 34 has the “best people” and “the best home.”
