EDINBURG – The “In Dialogue Event” hosted by the United States Hispanic Business Council, or USHBS, is a two-part Q&A series between Texas U.S. Senate opponents Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico.
The second part of the series featured James Talarico virtually presenting at the Plains Capital Bank Theater inside the Edinburg Student Union.
The first part featured Paxton at Fort Worth on Monday, September 28.
The event was created to answer questions and inform voters of their policies as they run for office. Instead of a traditional head-to-head debate, each candidate sat down separately with Javier Palomarez, USHBC president and CEO, to answer questions from business owners about the economy, data centers, energy and immigration.
Though Talarico’s appearance at the university was initially intended to take place in person, it was changed to an online video call after he contracted the flu a couple days earlier. Talarico pointed to his record of bipartisan legislation, as well as his faith as an example of how he approaches public policy.
“Now over four terms in the state house, I’ve been able to bring democrats and republicans together to pass 60 bipartisan bills that improve public education, raise teacher pay, lower the cost of housing and childcare, and prescription drugs and so I’m trying to love my neighbor through public policy,” Talarico said during the event.
He said his record of bipartisan work shows how he would serve in the U.S. Senate, with a focus on representing all Texans and putting Texas ahead of party politics.
