UTRGV – A group chat involving members from the Chinese Student & Scholar Association at UTRGV led to the donation of more than $1,000 to the Student Food Pantry and 1,000 face masks to two Valley police departments.
This coming in from a UTRGV press release last week. The discussion started on a messaging and social media app called We Chat. The members were able to raise $1,330 for the student food pantry and donated the face masks to the Edinburg Police Department and McAllen Police Department.
The release said that according to the Associate Dean Wang, all of the members have ties to China and they quote, “knew early on how bad this virus is or can be.”
The former chair of the organization Ben Xu, assistant professor in the UTRGV Mechanical Engineering Department, said it was quote “A donation from the entire Chinese community.”
