UT Health RGV under new administration

Jasmin Espinosa February 18, 2026

BROWNSVILLE – UT Health RGV aims to serve more students this semester at its Brownsville campus facility.

Xavier Duran is the newly appointed clinical service line administrator. He said although clinic staff see nearly a dozen students per day, he wants to increase those numbers.

“We are here,” Duran said. “We have the staff available. So, if there’s anything you all need, feel free to come out.”

Just after Glenn Gray, the director of UTRGV Health Services, retired last August, the department has made changes to its administration.

Duran, who was appointed in January, said no changes to UT Health RGV services will take place.

“Some of those services are covered with a $30 medical service fee that is billed to students every semester,” Duran said.

As a result of that fee, students have access to medications, medical supplies and laboratory services at a reduced cost.

Some services and treatments include general exams, acute illness care, and both blood pressure and vision screenings.

“At this time, we’re continuing with all services,” Duran said. “We do offer free flu vaccines for all students. We’re able to help them with any care that they may need.”

The Student Health Clinic is housed inside the Research Office Building, which is next to the Biomedical Research Building on the Brownsville campus.

The Student Health Clinic is located at number 20 on the map.

Duran said there are more than 2,000 students who visit the UT Health RGV Clinic per semester on the Brownsville campus.

Nursing senior Paola Marquez and biology freshman Ricardo Herrera said they plan to use the facility.

“It’s definitely really helpful,” Marquez said. “Even, like, just considering i don’t have a primary doctor, I think it’s really beneficial for a lot of students here because i know a lot of students don’t have health insurance.”

“Well, I do have insurance, but it’s [going to] run out soon,” Herrera said. “So, I think it would actually be very helpful for me as a student and also going to work and trying to also help my mom.”

To learn more about the services offered you can visit uthealthrgv.org or visit its office locations on the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.
