BROWNSVILLE – The Valley Regional Medical Center announced a new expansion to the labor and delivery area in late September.
According to Kimberly Vergara, the chief nursing officer, the new expansion aims to make a safer experience for patients by insuring they have access to any medical needs 24/7 and to increase the capacity.
Vergara said the medical center is currently using its operating room, or OR, for its obstetrics, or OB, which is where pregnant women are taken care off before, during and after birth.
She said the OR is frequently backed up due to the shared space, a problem the new expansion will solve.
