BROWNSVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley welcomes back the Distinguished Speaker Series, in person, with guest speaker John Quiñones.
He mentioned many memorable stories of how he gave people a voice and shared their journey on immigration, discrimination, and more— which earned him a total of seven Emmy’s.
“Everyone talked about the shooting, Walmart, and immigration. But no one went beyond that and we did a story on how resilient and strong the people of El Paso are,” said Quiñones.
UTRGV Spanish Interpretation student Natalie Prada said that learning about Quiñones’ experiences with discrimination gave her hope in pursuing her goals.
“Hearing him talk about his experience on a person of color it makes me more welcomed and more comfortable. Knowing that I’m not the only one whose gone through discrimination,” said Prada.
UTRGV will host its next Distinguished Speaker Series on November third, with guest speaker Lana Condor.
