EDINBURG – On August 27th, UTRGV Athletics began to stream their games to ESPN+. This was in conjunction with the media deal that the Western Athletic Conference made with ESPN.
Michael Rodriguez, Athletics Video Production Coordinator, oversees the technical aspects of the stream.
“We make sure that we are going on schedule. Every single game has a script, every single production has a script. We start the game with a cold open, we put in certain graphics, then we move on to commercials, those sorts of things. We just make sure the game flows in a way that makes sense,” said Rodriguez.
Jonah Goldberg, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications and the voice of the broadcast, works closely with Rodriguez to ensure a quality product.
Goldberg said, “We’ve made a lot of progress. We’ve gone from broadcasting either from the school website, or from a local website to the WAC Digital Network, to ESPN+. And I hope to just keep getting even better.”
