Leading with a team-high, we have redshirt junior Amara Graham with four career-high three-pointers. We also have redshirt sophomore Ashlei Lopez with two rebounds totaling 12 points. Zahne Templeton is also a redshirt junior giving the Vaqueros nine points with six rebounds.
The team had a hard time with defense, and Coach Lane Lord says they are going to be focusing on plays for their next games.
The women’s basketball team then came face to face with Chicago State with a score of 77-68 on Saturday.
Junior Amara Graham led UTRGV with 25 career-high points with four assists and 15 made free throws. Ashlei Lopez once again added 12 points and Jordan Agustus gave the Vaqueros 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Now moving on to men’s basketball, senior Lesley Varner II became the 26th player in the program’s history to score 1,000 points in his career. The Vaqueros completed the season crushing the Kansas City Roos with a 73-60 victory on Thursday.
Varner scored 23 points, increasing his career total.
Jordan Jackson made double-figures for the Vaqueros scoring 16 points. Junior Chris Freeman also gave Vaqueros nine points.
On Saturday, the men’s basketball team played at the Jones Convocation Center against Chicago State University and made their third consecutive win with a score of 75-74.
Lesley Varner II scored 18-straight points with a 20-2 run. Jordan Jackson scored 14 points with four rebounds, Javon Levi gave the Vaqueros 10 points, eight assists and two steals. Also, Quinton Johnson came in with 10 points.
The UTRGV men’s basketball team will be playing Thursday night at the UTRGV Fieldhouse against Utah Valley and on Saturday they will be hosting Seattle University for homecoming night.
