RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The UTRGV Swimming and Diving team is gearing up for a competitive Division I season after overcoming an unexpected early-season setback.
After dealing with a sudden pool closure, Betsy Graham, UTRGV Swimming and Diving head coach, said the Vaqueros are finally back together in the natatorium and focused on building momentum.
Earlier last month, the Pharr-PSJA-UTRGV Natatorium closed for about two weeks due to undisclosed reasons, leaving the team without their primary training facility.
“We’ve been diligently working away,” Graham said. “We got a little behind with the pool situation here being down for about two weeks, we were a little scattered all over the place, but we finally are back together and getting built up every day.”
Despite the temporary disruption, the team has shown major growth since the start of the season, steadily narrowing the performance gap against established Division I programs like New Mexico State. Graham highlighted significant improvements in tower diving as a major plus for this year’s roster, crediting the ongoing dedication of her athletes.
