EDINBURG- After a first-day record-breaking enrollment in the fall 2022 semester, the parking and transportation department is working to ensure parking is available and transportation is sustainable.
The Department of Parking and Transportation is taking measurements this Spring semester to assure students get to class. The department saw over a 100-percent increase in student passengers in the fall semester, and in the end, saw a total of 130,000 students use their services. Compared to the entire fiscal year of 2022 which was 168,000.
“We expect the ridership will increase but we’ll be able to accommodate,” said Rodney Gomez Executive Director of Parking and Transportation.
University parking is teaming up with university marketing to launch information to students this spring. This information will help students maneuver their way to find empty parking spaces on campus.
Pablo Aguilar, director of parking is awaiting results from a parking survey that was conducted in November of 2022 to see where growth can happen.
“We are expecting the results towards the end of March, we will then be looking into having a road map in the next 5-10 years”, said Pablo Aguilar Director of Parking.
