On this week’s sports highlights we’ve got men’s tennis, women’s track and field and baseball all on the rundown for you. First up men’s tennis had a match up against Kansas City, Saturday March 30th. The match was tied 3-3 between UTRGV senior Kaufman and UMKC’s Stride, but it was in court two when playing singles that Stride clinched the win when Kaufman fell in the second set 1-6. The third set was actually tied between the men at game six, forcing a tiebreaker which UMKC took the last seven points.
UTRGV’s juniors Sarradin and Schmit got the win with a 6-3 score over in court three playing doubles. Senior Kuafman and freshman Hutchings also took a win on court two playing doubles; earning a 6-4 victory in that match.
UMKC then answered back on courts one and three in singles and matches getting the leads and carried it out to court four and the final.
Next, women’s track and field wraps up their Texas Relays in Austin, Saturday March 30th. The girls visited the capital’s city to enter the 92nd annual Clyde Little Field Texas Relays. UTRGV senior Diamond Thomas recorded a discus throw of 50.38 meters. Thomas score went down as the third-best in program’s history and finished in 6th for that category.
Now in the 4 x 800 meter relay, girls Kyra, Sierra, Monica and Dorcas recorded a time of nine minutes and twenty-two seconds finishing in seventh place.
