Stephen Gutierrez EDINBURG – After a sold-out trip to the Alamodome, one UTRGV organization said talks of more student road trips have already begun.
Earlier this month, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) gave students the opportunity to take their school spirit on the road for the Vaqueros’ football matchup against the UT San Antonio Roadrunners.
After the success of the trip, CAB is now considering doing it again.
Jada Lopez, CAB pride and signature events chair, said the organization is looking to offer more trips, providing students the opportunity to explore different destinations across Texas.
“It used to be a thing back then, but we’re trying to bring it back up again since this was a really successful one,” Lopez said. “So, let’s say if students want to go to Fiesta Texas or they want to go explore Austin or all these different places around Texas, us at Campus Activity Board will be able to provide those things for them.”
The chair said the interest from students was higher than expected, even after tickets for the trip were sold-out.
“We had a bunch of students also even email us asking if there were still any more tickets,” she said. “But, since we had only bought a certain amount, we weren’t able to get extras for them. At least we know now for the future that we’ll get even more tickets so more students have the opportunity to go.”
However, for students hoping to hit the road again this season, Lopez said they must wait.
“As of right now for the current football season, we’re not able to do it,” she said. “But for next year, it’s already like we’re already getting in the works of potentially having these charter busses take the students to these away games for the next season.”
While another road trip for Vaqueros Football is not planned for this season, it seems the student response to the UTSA game may have just paved the way for more to come in the future.
