SGA’s Mission Possible Wins with 611 Votes

Yuliana Quiroz March 26, 2019

Edinburg- It took 611 votes out of the 933 total for Mission Possible to win the Student Government Association Elections for 2019-2020 Academic year.

“I feel overwhelmed, you know, we had a lot of support that obviously you expect support from friends and family I just didn’t realize how big that, how extensive that was,” said Ingrid de la Torre.

Ingrid de la Torre, current SGA Vice President for the Brownsville campus will now be serving as the next SGA President for UTRGV alongside Alexandra Smith-Macias as her VP for the Edinburg campus and Roy Cantu as her VP for the Brownsville campus.

“You know we want to implement a schedule for the Brownsville campus, so you know at what time the circulator is coming by to pick students up from you know those secluded parking lot areas,” said Smith-Macias.

Smith-Macias explains the several projects they plan to take on including improving transportation, sustainability, equality and unity between campuses especially for athletic events, and the overall design of SGA.

“We want to rethink how we do SGA to create more transparency, to better service students, to just improve the way you see us,” continued Smith-Macias.

Mission Possible tells us they were glad to be competing with the opposing executive ticket known as Team Action which included Carlo Flores, Victoria Lozano, and Alejandro Saldivar.

Now, UTRGV-TV wanted to hear from Team Action, but they did not respond to a request for comment on this year’s SGA elections.
