McAllen – Dozens of people gathered at the McAllen Performing Arts Center for the one-hour ceremony commemorating the strifes of those who served.
Gallegos remains active in his local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and believes all veterans deserve access to such resources.
The ceremony was originally planned to take place at the Veterans War Memorial of Texas, but the cold and rainy weather led to its relocation.
Colonel Frank Plummer and US Army Active Reserve Cristina Wilson made the event possible.
In the audience were veterans spanning decades of wars, from those who served during WWII to the more recent war in Afghanistan.
Senator Chuy Hinojosa served as the keynote speaker and shared his experience serving in the Vietnam War.
McAllen Mayor Jim Darling, who served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971, explains how society needs to move away from the commercialization of Veteran’s Day.
