Edinburg- George Lopez, a well known comedian and actor from Los Angeles, made a quick-stop at UTRGV’s track and field to push students and the community to vote this coming election.
The rally offered food and music to the public as they waited for George Lopez’s arrival.
Lopez spoke about the importance of voting in the Rio Grande Valley to demonstrate that Latinos aren’t what society places them to be.
Lopez mentioned the derogatory terms society places on Latinos: lazy and job-stealers.
After his quick speech, he took the time to take pictures with attendees. he then lead the crowd to the polling place at the Student Union.
“There’s so many decisions that lawmakers make regarding educational experience across the country at all universities. So, when it comes down to questions about federal aid and ensuring that every student can go to the college of their choice without being limited by their financial backgrounds, that all falls back down on elections,” said Carlo Flores, vice president of the Progressive Young Democrats.
