HARLINGEN – The City of Harlingen held a grand opening for its first city-owned covered basketball court earlier this month.
Officials said the facility comes as a response to locals wanting to shoot hoops while beating the heat.
Construction of the court started in January, but Rene Perez, Harlingen District Five Commissioner, said this project has been in development for roughly two years.
Along with the addition of the court, the city worked on improving irrigation and adding greenery to the area.
Jonathan Cantu, Harlingen resident, said he was excited to see a covered court finally arrive in the city.
