West Nile Virus and Dengue Fever Cases Emerge

utrgvtv November 3, 2020

Hidalgo County – Last month, Hidalgo County confirmed an estimate of about another four new West Nile virus cases, and as of October 26th. Dengue Fever cases also have started to emerge from various cities in the RGV.

Pharmacy Technician, Aleena Romy explains why the RGV should be very cautious about mosquito contracted diseases.

“The reason we notice more West Nile is because it can also affect patients who are older than the age of 65 which we do have a large population of and for people who have a lot more comorbidities, which would be like diabetes, cholesterol and our areas strongly affected by that,” said Romy.

“We have a lot of comorbidities and we have a lot of people that suffer from heart disease and diabetes so I think that’s why we’re seeing a lot of cases at the moment.”
