UTRGV Announces Tuition Advantage Program

Rocio Villalobos September 17, 2019

EDINBURG – On Monday, UTRGV made an announcement on tuition costs.

Students from a household with a gross income under 75 thousand dollars will receive free tuition beginning fall 2020.

Local representatives joined Dr. Guy Bailey for the announcement, which is expected to help more than half of the university’s undergraduate population.

Dr. Bailey crediting local lawmakers for helping to accomplish this Tuition Advantage program, which he says will help advance the Rio Grande Valley as a whole.

“What we’re trying to help students do is graduate as quickly as possible to get into the workforce. That’s how you improve your own social mobility. We’re a university about social mobility, so we think the faster students can graduate and get into the workforce, and especially with very little debt, the better off they will be, but also the better off the Rio Grande Valley will be. This will be great for the entire Valley,” said Bailey.

UTRGV is also offering a plan of reduced tuition and fees for students with a family gross income between 75 and 100 thousand dollars.
