Edinburg- The crowd went wild as Wilmer Valderrama walked onstage to kickoff this year’s Distinguished Speaker Series at UTRGV.
Best known for his role as Fez on the hit TV comedy “That 70s Show”, hundreds of students, faculty, and community members anxiously waited in line for hours before he made his appearance.
And while many were there to reignite childhood memories, others sought an educational experience. This English teacher organized this trip for her class to dive into how rhetoric is used by someone like Wilmer Valderrama.
“I have them go and see in the real world this is how people present themselves, how they establish credibility for their audience, how they appeal to them emotionally,” said Rachel Puckett, an English teacher at Med High.
Valderrama shared his story of how he came to be an actor, detailing the hardships he faced coming from an immigrant family, and being a Latino in Hollywood with an accent.
