UTRGV Women’s Tennis picks up first win of the season, hosts junior clinic

Desiree Villanueva October 23, 2024

EDINBURG– The season begins in full swing for the UTRGV Women’s tennis.

The Vaqueros started off the season with its first tournament in Kingsville against the Javelina Jam.

UTRGV obtained 13 wins against Kingsville throughout the two-day competition.

West Nott, UTRGV Women’s Tennis head coach, speaks on the team’s work based on the previous tournament and what is going to be different for the next.

“I think the competition will be little bit tougher all around,” Nott said. “I think we are going to be the underdogs going in just because we some of our other players going to go play at conference tournaments so were going to give a short line up its going to be great for the other players to get opportunities against some higher-level players.”

Nott adds what the Valley can expect from the Vaqueros.

“But what they can expect is for us to play with a lot of energy as usual and to compete our faces off and you know give it our all and try to represent the valley in a positive matter,” Nott said.

Preparation continues for the Southland Conference Fall Championship, taking place from October 25 to 27 in Hammond, Louisiana.

UTRGV Women’s Tennis is hosting a Free Junior Tennis Clinic from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the North Brownsville Park and Tennis Center.

Children from kindergarten to ninth grade are eligible.
