UTRGV- A new student run initiative called Lights Out UTRGV made a petition to help migrating birds by reducing light pollution on both campuses.
Lights Out is a national campaign that addresses light pollution in urban centers.
According to a UTRGV Graduate Student for the Agricultural, Environmental, and Sustainability Sciences Program, light pollution distorts, confuses, and attracts migratory bird species.
“The biggest risk ends up being collisions with buildings, so we see approximately a billion deaths by building collisions every year in the United States,” says Kaitlynn Lavallee.
