EDINBURG- The Wall Street Journal ranked UTRGV as the No. 1 college in the state for “social mobility” and “best value” public university for the first time in the journal.
The ranking in social mobility was determined based on high graduation rates and the admission numbers of low-income students.
The best value rank was based on how quickly graduate students paid off the average price of their years of study. Wall Street Journal calls this the “years to pay off net price.”
Guy Bailey, UTRGV president, shared he was very pleased about the results and hopes to continue providing more opportunities for individuals in the Rio Grande Valley.
“90% of our full-time undergraduates paid no tuition or fees,” Bailey said. “Nobody in the country has a figure like that. We’re always looking for ways to tweak that or add to it and make that even better.”
Bailey also added that UTRGV received the “Approval Degree Completion award” given by the Association of Public and Land-Grant universities. This award serves to signify the number of degrees awarded to undergraduate students.
Bailey said his mission is to continue to help students graduate with minimal or no debt.
