UTRGV Men’s Basketball 2024-2025 Season takes off Monday

Desiree Villanueva November 6, 2024

EDINBURG – The new season signals the start of a fresh era for UTRGV Men’s Basketball, now under the guidance of head coach Kahil Fennell, as he leads the Vaqueros in his first full season.

The Vaqueros have been preparing for the season since June. Head Coach Fennell highlights the team’s hard work and dedication as they gear up for the challenges ahead.

“I am proud of the hard work they are putting in and I do feel that we are continuing to improve. I am excited about that,” Fennell said “I am proud of the hard work they are putting in and I do feel that we are continuing to improve. I am excited about that.”

Fennell expresses said having a great support staff helps reach the team’s goals as 13 new players joined the roster this year.

“We have a fantastic staff,” Fennell said. “I couldn’t be more pleased or proud of the staff that we have in place here. […] It’s just important that we continue to get better and not worry too much about big picture things that we can’t control.”

The UTRGV Men’s Basketball team kicked off the season last Monday 87-67,with an away game against the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Vaqueros’ first home game will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse, where they’ll face Champion Christian College.
