UTRGV Introduces New VP and Director of Athletics

Kim Meza August 30, 2019

Edinburg- UTRGV held a press conference to introduce the new Vice President and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque.

Conque has served as Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock since 2015.

Conque knows President Guy Bailey has a great vision for the athletic program.

“President Bailey is a phenomenally seasoned veteran leader, visionary, very active in NCAA governance, so working for somebody that understood the importance of athletics was very key to me. Seeing the campus, the city, understanding the history of our legacy institutions and seeing what’s now become of UTRGV, all those things were extremely attractive and then on top of that just the pure success of our athletic programs this past season,” said Conque.

Bailey also mentioned Conque was highly recommended by Texas Tech Coach Chris Beard. While coaching in Little Rock, Conque achieved a winning combination of 19 teams of both men’s and women’s basketball reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament.

“Looking forward to having a really good soccer teams and volleyball at UTRGV is always good, so that always kicks the ball off by the end of October we’ll be playing basketball. We had strong basketball seasons last year; this will be a lot of fun,” said Bailey.

Conque has moved to the Valley with his wife and three daughters Julianna, Sydney and Adeleine in which they will now call home.
