EDINBURG – Get ready for dunks, dribbling and free throws as UTRGV Athletics released its basketball schedule earlier this month.
Starting on Nov. 2 with three straight games at home for the men and one for the women’s team, the Vaqueros will have a lot to look forward to in basketball after Halloween.
Brandon Chambers, UTRGV Men’s Basketball head coach, said this “grand opening” will be great not only for the team but for the community as a whole.
“I think it’s going to be really special, for the Valley, for our guys,” he said. “Also the, the timing of it, you know, having a home opener of the day college basketball starts, and a doubleheader with the women’s team.”
Lane Lord, Women’s Basketball head coach, said facing tough opponents, such as top 50 team North Dakota State, will be a fun challenge after finishing in third place last season.
Chambers shared the home-and-home series with Texas State University came about in conversation with its head coach Terrence Johnson as great home games for both teams.
Women’s Basketball will face Arlington Baptist University while the men’s team takes on Texas A&M Kingsville on opening day.
