BROWNSVILLE – The city of Brownsville Health, Wellness and Animal Services department’s Vector Control team launched the Brownsville Mosquitoes Notices App that allows users to track spraying sessions across the city.
Yaziri Gonzalez, Medical Entomologist, said Brownsville Mosquito Notices allows users to report sights of high-volume mosquito activity by inputting the location into the app.
“We’re going to make sure that there’s solid evidence of mosquito activity and also making sure that we have the actual vectors out there because that is our primary goal is reducing the number of vectors, which is an organism that can transmit a disease in our environment,” Gonzalez said.
App users can also find a spray map of the areas that have been recently treated. If the outline of the spray map is green this means the area has been treated for adulticiding, which known as a pesticide to kill adult mosquitoes, or larva sighting. If the outline is black this means the area has not been scheduled for treatment yet.
Upon a subscription to the app, users could receive notifications based on spray treatment, adulticiding and larva sighting.
Gonzalez said the app might receive updates in the near future.
Brownsville Mosquito Notices is available to download on IOS and Android.
