EDINBURG- A Chicago freelance artist painted a mural in Edinburg to highlight the culture in the Rio Grande Valley and honor its traditions by painting “The American Landscape.”
Mauricio Ramirez, the artist, is known to create interior and exterior murals in Chicago, Denver, Houston and now the RGV.
Although he is not originally from the Valley, he wanted to create a mural here after visiting the region a few months ago, which inspired him to create something special for the community to signify its cultural heritage.
“You know, I know I’m an outsider, but I really took time to just listen to…what the local attitudes were and what their beliefs were to just try to help them visualize it through like my filter,” Ramirez said. “Hopefully, I have people be something proud of that they can see.”
He hopes to achieve inspiration for business owners in the community to invite more artists to create art in the city.
According to the City of Edinburg news release, the mural features distinct segments which include Tejano Legend Hometown and Music Friendly City theme, a City of Festivals, a Purple Heart city to honor fallen heroes and more.
He advises young individuals to chase their dreams and to make sure to never quit, people will eventually notice their talent.
The mural is completed and is located on the Gateway Printing and Office Supply, Inc. building at 315 S. Closner.
