Edinburg- UTRGV’s Director of Student Health Services spoke about the merger between the student and employee health centers last week, addressing some concerns from faculty over potential service issues.
Since Jan. 2, UTRGV’s Employee Health Clinic has moved its staff to the students’ facility under the School of Medicine’s direction.
Director of Health Services Rick Gray said the decision is a way of supporting the clinic due to its lack of financial security.
Gray stated the shared expenses for the building will not cause any issues.
“We allocate our expenses to employee health, they pay their way here,” he said. “They have their own accounts, their own supplies. They have all their own staff.”
Gray said Student Health charges faculty services a prorated amount for using the facility.
Angelina Rubio, a biology junior, said she has seen no change and still receives the same treatment.
“I had to go get, like, my dry skin checked but they immediately gave me my ointments which is very helpful, at least I don’t have to wait for that,” Rubio said.
Gray confirmed the Student Health Center has worked with the School of Medicine’s finance department to ensure the shared services are managed accordingly.
