UTRGV- What a way to start off the season, a victory round for the men’s first home soccer game was Sunday, September 2nd against Northern Illinois University.
In the first half Illinois’ Alex Welch scores from left field getting past goalkeeper Andy Rios right there. Soon in the second half UTRGV’s Angel Lopez scores the first goal as offense assisted by #20 William Aiko and #3 Matt Beaulaurier tying the score 1-1.
Seconds later Kyle Edwards #9 takes the pass from Aiko, kicks and scores now 2-1 UTRGV in the lead.
Illinois’ Noah Brodie scores shortly after with a second goal. It’s no sweat here for our men though as they hold onto the lead with a final score 3-2.
More recently the men had another home win against the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Saturday September 9th. Coming in hot at the start of the game is forward Isidro Martinez #7 who passes it to Edwards scoring the first goal of the game.
Lopez with a free kick to Edwards; he’s blocked but Aiko is there with that rebound. UTRGV takes the win 2-1.
And here’s the women’s soccer team against McNeese State University, Friday September 7th.
Senior Tuva Nilsen on the right there took a free kick where Zapata matched up the score 1-1. Zapata’s second goal right here. And a few words from Zapata herself from Friday nights’ performance.
