UTRGV- Welcome back Vaqueros to another school year. For this week’s sports highlights the women’s soccer team opened the start of their season with a home tournament Friday August 17th against Texas Southern State university.
Scoring just 10 minutes into the game we have freshman Elina Seppala making that first kick of the season.
UTRGV’S junior goal keeper, Kinga Szemik blocked Texas Southern State’s #14 right there you can see.
At the fifteen-minute mark, we had forward Sarah Bonney #14 score the second goal with a long pass from middle fielder Diana Ansa #9.
Still in the first half we have freshman Emily Zappata #10 score the third goal.
And lastly sophomore Jada MacLean, #4 which is no coincidence score the fourth goal in the second half that wrapped up the girls opening tournament with the score 4-1.
Moving onto the men’s soccer team which also had their first start of the season, was their first away game against Siena college at Sorrels Field, Sunday August 26th.
In the first half of the game, Diego Ruiz from Siena College scores the first goal of the game but didn’t take long for UTRGV’s forward Jaakko Hietikko #10 to match that score assisted by teammate Isaiah Hinds #11.
