Recovery Program Teaches Students How to Deal with Addiction

utrgvtv March 17, 2020

UTRGV – According to Customs and Border Protection, the use of Valley ports to cross liquid meth has increased this year.

To combat addiction and heavy drug use, UTRGV Collegiate Recovery Program hosts Narcotics and Alcohol Anonymous meetings.

The higher abundance of drugs may indicate a higher percentage of addiction here in the Valley, potentially affecting our students.

The UTRGV Collegiate Recovery Program dedicates three days a week to Narcotics Anonymous meetings and one day to Alcohol Anonymous meetings.  The program also teaches the community to become a recovery ally – a person who is trained to talk and support someone dealing with addiction.

“…to support them, to help them out. Instead of putting the harm distance on them, but getting closer to them and getting to understand they’re having problems with addiction,” said Raymond Salas, the program’s director.

The weekly meetings are available for anyone struggling with any kind of addiction.  For more information, contact the UTRGV Collegiate Recovery Program at 665-2674 (Edinburg) or  882-3897 (Brownsville).
