BROWNSVILLE—The recently appointed University of Texas System student regent visited the UTRGV Brownsville campus, last Thursday.
Anthony John Dragun was appointed as the student regent for a one-year term by Governor Greg Abbott.
He is visiting the 13 UT system campuses to listen to students’ concerns about campus issues and learn more about the culture and environment.
Dragun said he hopes to bring a well-rounded perspective to the role.
“But I also realized that I can’t, don’t know everything and even my experience at these campuses can be very different from the next guy over,” he said. “So, I think that coupled with my time working, I really would like to have a focus on career readiness and focus on physical health.”
Dragun said hearing about student experiences are distinctly different than experiencing the campus environment firsthand.
“Driving from McAllen to Edinburg over here to Brownsville you realize just how far away the campuses are,” he said. “So, it puts a new perspective on issues that might be surrounding having multiple campuses.”
According to the University of Texas System website, Dragun is from Midland, Texas and is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
