EDINBURG – On the corner of McIntyre Street and Closner Boulevard lies one of the most renowned buildings in the history of Edinburg.
The Museum of South Texas History’s 1910 Jailhouse has been the center of several alleged paranormal happenings.
The 1910 Jailhouse is widely recognized for its first and only hanging of convicted murderer and rapist Abram Ortiz in 1913.
According to museum staff — the jailhouse where Abram Ortiz was hung, which drew crowds from all over historic South Texas, has been the site of various hauntings.
To museum staff, the paranormal experiences vary from person to person, often manifesting as objects moving by themselves or the sensation of being physically touched by something unseen.
For Jenarae Bautista, curator of exhibits at the Museum of South Texas History, these experiences often take the form of sudden temperature changes and a chill down her spine.
