Gradient Exhibition Showcases Student Senior Projects

Elijah Noriega May 6, 2019

Edinburg- The annual Gradient Exhibit is here. Senior graphic designers show off their art portfolios that they’ve been working on all semester.

“So this show it happens every fall, every spring. It is a culmination of every student that is generally senior, last year. They work this long, they create a body of work, if its one piece, if its multiple pieces, 2D, 3D,” said Marcus Farris, an associate professor for the School of Art.

Students like Norma Hernandez explains where her artistic inspiration started.

“Honestly it started since my childhood when I would start with Crayola, so I got inspired to continue my education with the arts,” said Hernandez.

Other than graphic designing, Jessica Villegas shares her love for ceramics.

“It’s a material I feel I can hold, as opposed to something like a paint brush or paint on a wall or an easel. I can create something. I can hold it and turn it into a living thing. It becomes anthropomorphic for me. I give it almost a human qualities, where it speaks to me and it helps create it,” said Villegas.

Adilene Rosales and Jonathan Hernandez elaborate on their acceptance into art school in New York.

“We got accepted in Chautauqua in New York, out of 115 applied, 38 were selected and we are two that got selected into that program,” said Rosales.

“We’re excited, looking forward to the challenge, it’ll be a competitive place but also collaborative of the two,” said Hernandez.

The on-going show happens every semester for graphic designing, Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art and art education majors in hopes of bigger opportunities in the future.
