Brownsville- A packed house came to the TSC Art Building to see George Takei an actor and activist who promotes the struggles of his own childhood.
Takei feels warmed and welcomed, but soon enough begins to tell us his childhood experience of World War II.
“Imagine being incarcerated and living in a black carpe for barrack in the blistering desert of Arizona,” said Takei.
Takei mentions events of the past reoccuring in present day.
“As well because in the past two days what I’ve been here is an echo from my own childhood because I’ve lived through a very ugly chapter of American history.”
That ugly chapter in Takei’s life happened in the 1940s when Japanese Americans were sent to live in internment camps.
A moment George will never forget.
“My baby sister once said, ‘Mama lets go back home’. Home for her was was behind barbed wire fence.”
