EDINBURG – The South Texas Showdown is a rivalry between UTRGV and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s athletic programs that started in 2016.
The Showdown pits the two schools against each other in over ten sports in competitive games.
Glad Bugariu, UTRGV Women’s Soccer Head Coach, has coached every year since the Showdown began.
“We’ve developed a real rivalry with Corpus,” Bugariu said. “I think if you compare to the other sports, I think they’re just competitive games. But if you look at our games, they get passed at, they get very aggressive, chippy, whatever you want to call them.”
Corpus has been able to win the Showdown four out of the five years that the event has been held.
