Football season is around the corner for UTRGV

Desiree Villanueva February 12, 2025

EDINBURG – UTRGV Athletics announced the release of its new schedule along with National Signing Day last week, both events took place at the UTRGV Athletic Pavilion.

Last Tuesday, the UTRGV athletic department released its full schedule for the inaugural football season.

“One of our program goals is to compete for championships every year and that will always be the mentality, but to win a conference championship, one: you [have to] win home,” Football head coach Travis Bush said.

The UTRGV Vaqueros will compete in a total of 12 games including 7 home in their first ever season.

Starting the season Aug. 30 against Sul Ross State here at home, the Vaqueros will compete in 4 non-conference games before heading into conference play.

Conference play will begin Sept. 27 against Southeastern Louisiana on the road.

On Oct. 4, the Vaqueros return to the Valley for their first home conference game against Houston Christian.

Finishing the season home against East Texas A&M Nov. 22.

National Signing Day welcomes 32 new signees for UTRGV’s Football’s second recruiting class.

Amongst the 32 new signees, two valley locals signed with UTRGV, offensive lineman Thomas Domain and quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger.

UTRGV Football will be hosting a walk-on tryouts Feb.19 for any full-time UTRGV Student.

Student planning to tryout will have to attend a mandatory meeting Feb. 12.

Tryouts will be held on the UTRGV football practice fields located behind the construction of the new Vaqueros Performance Center
