MISSION – KVAQ-TV spoke with locally owned flower shop Loly’s Flowers on how their florists operate behind the petals; to successfully deliver and give flowers to their customers for Valentine’s Day.
Founded in the 1990s, Loly Lopez’s original store was operated from within her own home. Within time, her husband built the shop that stands today on Griffin Pkwy.
Six years after Loly’s passing, her daughter and granddaughter took over the shop to continue Loly’s legacy.
Ana Goldsmann, the current owner of Loly’s Flowers shared the main process it takes for the shop to receive and deliver its flowers for the big day.
“Theres a process for up to two weeks,” Goldsmann said. “Which is like cleaning your flowers, processing your flowers, making sure their all processed with the correct chemicals, so they last longer, that their cut, that their water and buckets are clean so there are no bacteria.”
The florists prepare as early as December, to ensure all the flowers they need are ordered and delivered for Valentines Day. The flowers come from various states in the country and a few locations outside the U.S. such as Mexico and Ecuador.
Eliana Goldsmann, Ana’s daughter, added that although Valentine’s and Mother’s Day is a very popular day for their orders, funerals have also called them for special custom requests.
“For funerals we have had orders where we made a whole rooster out of flower and made the feathers look realistic as well as horses, baseballs and basketballs,” Goldsmann said. “We try to complete these challenges to the best of our ability.”
If you receive flowers on the 14 her are some tips from the Society of American Florists for you to follow to keep your flowers from wilting.
Tips from the Society of American Florists:
