Coffee, Cookies and Conversations

Monica Chavez March 28, 2024

BROWNSVILLE – The Student Leadership Academy hosted its seventh “Coffee, Cookies and Conversation” at the UTRGV campus in Brownsville on March 19.

The sessions are taught by different professionals from UTRGV including Esmeralda Rivera, a biomedical science lecturer, who spoke about ethics in research.

“I wanted them to know that there are research projects that are being conducted and looking for subjects and participation,” Rivera said. “I wanted them to be well aware of concerns, their rights and to know that their contributions can save lives by being part of a research project.”

Noe Infante, program coordinator for the Student Leadership Academy, said the sessions feature new topics every week.

Each topic focuses on different challenges that may arise in a professional environment and provides students with leadership resources.

He added that students get a special stole for their graduation ceremony when completing all nine sessions and it is also a good addition for their resume.

“Coffee, Cookies and Conversation” will feature more topics throughout the semester and into the next academic school year.
